A Day in the Life of Glenn Robinson, Colonial Castings National Business Manager
August 21, 2018Day in the Life
As the National Business Manager for Colonial Castings since March 2018, Glenn is responsible for driving the success and continued longevity of the Colonial Castings brand in the marketplace.
In addition to the traditional Colonial Castings business, Glenn is also responsible for guiding the Colonial Castings Security brand from its infancy into a market leading, security door solution for fabricators and consumers.
Let’s take a look at a typical day for Glenn.
How have you found it settling into your role at ALG?
Starting any job in a new place presents its challenges and my first week was a major adjustment especially learning all the new faces at a place as large as ALG. Using the staff directory on the intranet was great because it let me put a face to a name.
Overall in terms of adjusting, it didn’t take much time roughly a couple of weeks and that was due to the staff of ALG being so welcoming and inclusive. By the first month I felt very welcomed by the entire company and comfortable in the sense of feeling right at home.
What is your morning routine like?
It’s always an early start for me – either I wake up on my own or my boys will around 6.30am every morning. From there, we have breakfast which is usually Weetbix with fruit and honey. After breakfast, I get the kids ready and we make the dash for school.
After doing the school run and get into work, how do you kick off your work day?
I usually get into work between 8.30-9 am and the first thing I do is check my emails and sales progress. Once a month we also have a sales meeting, this way it allows for the reps to have more time out on the road.
Do you drink a lot of coffee throughout the day?
I’m actually not a big coffee drinker at all. I might have a cappuccino every now and then when we’re out for meetings, but I’m not a regular coffee drinker. Instead of getting a caffeine fix, I like to graze on snacks during the day to keep my energy levels up.
What does a typical day at work look like for you?
Colonial Castings is a relatively new brand from the perspective that we’re establishing them in the market so I spend a lot of time reviewing Colonial Castings products, pricing and positioning.
A lot of my time is also spent in meetings or catch ups, whether it’s with other departments, speaking with other National Business Managers to get a perspective on their processes, touching base with key customers, or chatting with my team.
How do you wind your day after getting home from work?
After getting the boys settled and in their beds, I put on some TV to relax for the night. My go-to show is currently Seinfeld – a classic!
