Introducing Pablo Portillo, Paint Line Team Leader
October 24, 2017Day in the Life
Pablo is the Paint Line Team Leader and has been working at ALG since January 2007. Earlier this year marked Pablo’s 10-year anniversary at the company.
As the Paint Line Team Leader, Pablo is responsible for powdercoating parts such as door handles, window handles, door locks, window locks and more.
Let’s take a look at a day in the life of Pablo.
5.30am
I wake up, read my bible and say a prayer to start off my day. After that I start getting ready for work.
6am
Leave for work. I live in Canley Vale so it only takes me around 15 to 20 minutes depending on how the traffic is.
6.20am
I get into work and start getting everything in order for the day. This includes checking the status of different projects, greasing the chain, curing the oven and putting the machine into continuous drive.
6.30am
Time to run the production report to see the priorities for the orders. I convert that report into an Excel spreadsheet so that it’s easier for the team to manage throughout the day.
7.00am
Start of the shift. We start with our production toolbox talk where we discuss all matters from Safety, Quality and SIFOT.
7.15am
Organise the priority jobs for the day and working through them.
7.45am
Help the team on the production line, assisting where I can. If a priority job comes up, then I need to check the quality of it.
9am
Morning tea time. This is when I have my breakfast. Usually it’s Weet-Bix and coffee.
9.15am
Back to the priority jobs and helping on the production line. For the parts that have already been painted, I have to check the quality to make sure it’s all up to standard. If the quality is good then I need to deliver them to the respective areas.
11.30am
Lunch time. It’s usually leftovers from last night’s dinner that my wife cooked. Back in the Philippines, I would be the one who cooked because we owned a small restaurant which I was the supervisor for and I picked up some tips from the head cook. But now it’s my wife who does the cooking.
12pm
Back to the priority jobs, working on the production and organising the incoming orders for the following day. I also need to keep an eye out for any problems that come up that I need to troubleshoot.
3.30pm
Finalise anything I’m working on, set things up for tomorrow then I head home for the day.
4pm
I get home, have a bit of a rest and check my emails. We have a lot of family overseas in the Philippines, America and Canada so email is a good way to keep in touch with everyone.
4.30pm
If it’s nice and warm outside I’ll go for a walk around our neighbourhood.
7pm
Dinner with my wife. After that we’ll watch some TV to wind down for the day. I like to watch news reports because I find it interesting to learn more about what’s going around the world.
10pm
Get ready for bed. My wife and I have a chat about our day then we’ll go to sleep to do it all over again tomorrow.
